    Donald Trump, News, Politics

It is absolutely amazing that Donald Trump, who continues to be historically unpopular and has yet to get his approval rating above 50%, can still find it in himself to brag in public.

Earlier this morning, Trump sent out a few tweets about the fact that North Korea and South Korea had reached an agreement and would be working toward denuclearization. While this is great news, the self-congratulatory tone of Trump’s messages truly takes all of the joy out of it. Trump tweeted:

“After a furious year of missile launches and Nuclear testing, a historic meeting between North and South Korea is now taking place. Good things are happening, but only time will tell! KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!”

This tone continued throughout the day, and it came to a head during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In speaking to reporters, Trump insulted each of his predecessors for allowing America to be played “like a fiddle” by North Korea. Giving himself a completely undeserved pat on the back, Trump said:

“The United States has been played beautifully, like a fiddle, because you had a different kind of a leader. We’re not going to be played, okay? We’re going to hopefully make a deal. If we don’t, that’s fine. The United States in the past was played like a fiddle.”

Trump also bragged that his administration was in “total touch” with North and South Korean officials ahead of the summit he will be attending with Kim Jong Un. Trump said, “we’ll be setting up a meeting very shortly.”

And of course, Trump couldn’t hold back the urge to make himself look like a tough guy. Trump threatened to walk out if things didn’t go his way in the upcoming talks:

“We will, I think, come up with a solution. And if we don’t, we leave the room. With great respect we leave the room and keep it going.”
