It seems that recently, president Donald Trump’s past (such as his numerous affairs and sex scandals) has been haunting First Lady Melania. But this week, it seems as though the tables have finally turned. A detail about Melania’s past has surfaced, and it’s finally a tiny bit of payback for all the humiliation her moronic husband has caused her over the last few weeks.
It turns out that although Melania’s parents legally immigrated to America and are now permanent US residents, the First Lady’s parents apparently used the “chain migration” system — a program that Trump has shunned and is trying to put an end to. The term goes in quotes because the actual name of the process is “Family Reunification,” but that sounds FAR too acceptable for Republicans, so they had to find a diabolical-sounding name to give it.
Melania’s family’s status was first reported by the Washington Post, in which immigration lawyer David Leopold said of the First Lady’s parents:
“That would be the logical way to do it, the preferred way to do it and possibly the only way to do it under the facts that I know.”
Immigration attorney Michael Wildes also said Melania’s parents, Viktor Knavs and Amalija Knavs, were “lawfully admitted” into the United States, but would not say if they had used the “chain migration” process. Wildes said:
“I can confirm that Mrs. Trump’s parents are both lawfully admitted to the United States as permanent residents. The family, as they are not part of the administration, has asked that their privacy be respected so I will not comment further on this matter.”
As always, Trump’s own words would come back to bite him in the ass. In the past, Trump has trashed the “chain migration” system — an issue that he detests so much that he made it one of his major talking points during his first State of the Union. During his speech, Trump suggested that only the most ideal immigrants should be let into the county, not outside relatives of Americans. Trump’s exact words were:
“Under the current broken system, a single immigrant can bring in virtually unlimited numbers of distant relatives. Under our plan, we focus on the immediate family by limiting sponsorships to spouses and minor children. This vital reform is necessary, not just for our economy, but for our security, and our future.”
This is one fact about Trump’s family that the president did NOT want anyone to know. Given his position on chain migration, this news about Melania’s family makes him look like even more of a monster — and definitely weakens his message.
